Custom crate

Royal Talens commercialise painting and drawing articles world-wide. They were searching for a bin that would be suitable for their automatic warehouse and that could be used for external distribution.

Engels has a wide assortment of plastic bins. Yet, it can happen that a customer has special requirements for a bin, requirements that are not met by any existing bin. One of our customers, Royal Talens, had such a challenge for us. .

Automatic warehouses

When working with automatic warehouses, the bins must meet certain requirements. The bins may not have slanted sides. Much space is then lost and it does not make the construction of the racks any easier. The bins must have a completely closed and smooth bottom. Also, the bottom can only have a minimal sag because of the precision movements in the automatic high-rise warehouse. These requirements apply for most bins in automatic warehouses.

External distribution

In the case of Royal Talens, the bins must also be suitable for distribution to other warehouses, in Spain for instance. This entails additional requirements. The bins must be easy to stack. The return volume must be decreased as much as possible. There must be space for bar-coding, so the bin can be easily found at other locations. A final requirement is that if the sprinklers go off, as little water as possible should remain in the bins afterwards.

Product development

Engels has experienced product engineers. This makes it possible for a product to be developed in a short time. Thus, for Royal Talens the AHDB (Automatic Handling Distribution Bin) saw the light of day.The AHDB meets all the necessary requirements. It has a reinforced bottom with lattice-work on the inside. The lattice-work is suitable for catching up to 1 litre of water. The lattice-work can also catch leaking paint. The AHDB has a solid rectangular construction, so it can be easily slid onto another bin. The AHDB is also nestable, which saves 50% of the space when returned

Engels Logistiek B.V. and Royal Talens ultimately agreed on an order of more than 50,000 AHDBs. The integration of these bins into daily processing has been completely satisfactory.
