Custom product carriers/trays
At Engels, we cater to both small and large series of custom product carriers/trays. We utilise various 3D CAD packages such as Solidworks, Solidedge, and Creo Elements, allowing us to perform complete simulations during the design phase. Engels designs and produces diverse product carriers for medium series (starting from 250 units) using different production techniques depending on your requirements and the number of product carriers needed. We provide custom interiors made from various materials and employ different production methods, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. For each specific requirement, we determine which materials are best suited.
Small and medium series from 250 pieces
For very small series and single pieces, we construct the carriers from sheet material. For medium to large series, we use vacuum forming and develop vacuum moulds from aluminium. With a simple counter-mould, we can produce lightweight product carriers in an automated fashion, with the contours cut directly on the machine. A bin combined with a vacuum-formed interior makes for an efficient product carrier. The bin ensures stackability, while the interior positions and protects the parts to be transported.
Because the forces that vacuum forming moulds must withstand, are only a fraction of those endured by injection moulds, they are approximately 80% cheaper. Thus, vacuum forming is often cost-effective for series starting from 250 pieces. For producing tough, impact-resistant products, we use polyethylene; when dimensional stability and precision are crucial, we typically choose (recycled) ABS.
Medium and large series starting from 5,000 pieces
We have invested in base injection moulds for common products with similar external dimensions, such as product carriers and trays. These base moulds are available, requiring only customisation. The shape and dimensions of the tray are fixed, as well as the stackability with other product carriers. Only the interior is fully customised to optimally protect fragile products during transport, production, and storage.
Of course, we can also design and produce a fully customised product carrier, for which a minimum series size of 5,000 pieces applies.
