Teboza Asparagus

Located in Limburg, Teboza is a family business specialising in the entire process of asparagus cultivation. From developing new asparagus varieties to being able to supply washed and cut final products, all processes are managed in-house, making Teboza a reliable partner. Initially, the company used standard asparagus crates, but these became too small and too weak for their needs. This led to suboptimal execution of processes as production volumes continued to grow.

The Challenge

Teboza's challenge was to find a container or crate that was both larger and stronger than the current asparagus bins. There was a need for a solution that could achieve cost savings per kilogram harvested, particularly during the harvest and transportation of the asparagus. Additionally, the bins needed to be light-tight when combined with lids, as exposure to light would cause the freshly harvested asparagus to discolour and lose quality. With continuously growing harvest volumes, Teboza sought a reliable partner who could meet this demand in the short term.

The Solution

After discussing the requirements and conducting an extensive review of various samples, Teboza ultimately opted for blue stack-and-nest containers. These containers, in combination with custom-made trolleys from Teboza, enabled a more efficient harvesting process. The combination of 8,000 new stack-and-nest containers and 2,000 lid covers, along with a (partially) renovated processing centre, lays a strong foundation for a successful asparagus season.

Specifications of the Selected Stack-and-Nest containers

  • Dimensions: The bins, measuring 600x400x220mm with a capacity of 37 litres, are handy in use and capable of transporting large volumes of asparagus.
  • Load Capacity: Maximum content load of 20 kg, and stacking load of 200 kg. In practice, however, the containers are loaded up to 30 kg when filled with water.
  • Material: PP-foodgrade (Polypropylene)
  • Colour: Blue, suitable and customary for use in the food sector.
  • Stackable and Nestable: The ability to stack the bins allows for easy stacking of full containers of asparagus, and when the containers are empty and returned, they can be nested to save space.
  • Accessories & Branding: Engels was able to brand the containers with the Teboza logo; additionally, we also supplied 2,000 corresponding lids for optimal protection of the asparagus.

User Experience

Currently, the asparagus season is in full swing, and our containers are being used intensively every day, both during the harvesting of the asparagus and in further processing. Konrad Cyba, Operations Manager at Teboza, is very pleased with the quality of the bins. "Engels really involved us throughout the entire process and offered a wide range of containers. We placed the order in October, and by February, they were already delivered; for this industry, that is quite fast," he says.
