Máxima MC and Engels

The Máxima Medical Center (MMC), a top clinical hospital in the Brainport region, has been a long-standing partner of Engels in waste management. With two locations, in the heart of Eindhoven and on the Eindhoven-Veldhoven border, MMC works daily to improve the health of the region. Behind the scenes, staff also work hard on the logistics and waste management within the hospital, where Engels has played a key role for over 15 years by supplying, among other things, waste containers.

Challenge

In 2022, it became clear that it was time to reassess and partially replace the container park at Máxima MC. Despite annual maintenance, where worn parts were repaired, some containers no longer met the requirements. However, the logistics team was pleased with the combination of drawbars and non-marking wheels on the old waste containers and wanted to retain these features in the new ones. Additionally, MMC required a solution for opening container lids, ensuring that staff could easily deposit waste into the containers with both hands.

Solution

After consultation, it was decided to equip the new residual waste and operation room containers with Engels' drawbar system and a hygienic foot pedal. This foot pedal allows the lid to be opened with minimal effort. Combined with the drawbar system, this ensures that waste processing is both more ergonomic and hygienic.

Sustainability

Both Máxima MC and Engels place a high value on sustainability. At Engels, reuse always takes precedence over recycling. In line with this philosophy, MMC decided to donate a significant portion of their old containers, which were no longer usable, rather than destroy them. As a result, 45 old containers were refurbished and given a second life elsewhere. This not only contributes to sustainable waste management but also prevents the waste of valuable materials.
