City Harbours Medemblik deploys Aero containers for the marinas

Aero containers are used to provide City Harbours in Medemblik with a complete and sustainable waste collection solution.

City harbours in Medemblik

Medemblik, located in the province of North Holland, is part of the historic region of West Friesland. This area is renowned for its rich history, charming villages, and traditions. Medemblik offers a tranquil atmosphere and a prime location on the IJsselmeer, making it a popular destination for both water sports enthusiasts and culture lovers. The municipality boasts four marinas, ensuring a steady flow of boat owners. City Harbours Medemblik manages the operation of these harbours.

The challenge

For berth holders, metal 4-wheel containers were placed at each marina to dispose of waste. However, these containers were also used by local residents to dump their waste for free. As the containers were located in public areas, City Harbours Medemblik sought an efficient way to collect waste exclusively from berth holders and prevent local residents from using the containers. Moreover, the containers were outdated and not user-friendly. The lids were heavy and difficult to open, especially for individuals with less strength or shorter stature. City Harbours Medemblik therefore sought a practical, sustainable solution accessible only to berth holders.

The solution: Aero above-ground containers

Engels, in collaboration with City Harbours Medemblik, selected a suitable solution to optimise waste collection. After an on-site assessment and discussions regarding the needs of City Harbours Medemblik, above-ground containers proved to be the best choice. The decision was made to implement containers equipped with locks that can only be accessed by users with a specific code. Additionally, the containers are fitted with a triple-hook lifting system, ensuring compatibility with the current waste collector's system in Medemblik. This allows for easy emptying of the containers without requiring changes to the existing infrastructure.

Jeroen Slagter, director of City Harbours Medemblik, emphasised satisfaction with the chosen solution:
"The price matches the quality delivered."

Practical and sustainable design

The new containers are designed with user convenience in mind. They feature lighter lids that are easy to open, making waste disposal accessible to all users. The robust and lockable design prevents unauthorised use, while the containers’ appearance ensures a tidy look in the marina.

Specifications of the Aero containers:

  • Equipped with a triple-hook lifting system (other options available)
  • Coated with anti-graffiti protection
  • Fitted with a lockable lid featuring a triangular key
  • Resistant to extreme weather conditions
  • 3250-litre storage capacity
  • Printed fraction indications (e.g. residual waste, glass, paper)

With the introduction of Aero containers, City Harbours Medemblik has taken a significant step towards a more sustainable and efficient waste collection system. This solution ensures a cleaner marina environment and provides improved service to berth holders.
